More About Melissa

Welcome to my first blog post.

A bit more about me…

I’m a Catholic homemaker and a writer. Before I married my wonderful Lithuanian husband thirty years ago, I worked in libraries. Many libraries. I did a bit of everything—cataloging, interlibrary loan, patron services—so I really learned my way around the library. Before that I attended the University of Louisville, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in the useless (and now obsolete) field of Geography.

As a curious person who’s always been fascinated by the supernatural and the mysterious side of life (aliens, ghosts, crop circles, etc.), my first novel naturally had to be a haunted house story. I began writing Unwelcome in 2016, shortly after moving to our current home, which provided plenty of inspiration (see “Is My House Cursed?”). It took me about three years to complete my manuscript. Then I spent many more years querying. I’m as persistent as I am slow, and my tenaciousness finally paid off in 2024, when I was offered a publishing contract with Rowan Prose Publishing.

I also enjoy writing for younger folks. I completed a middle-grade novel several years ago, and I’m currently in the early stages of a young adult novel. (I’ve been in these early stages for about 18 months. Again, I’m slooow.)

When I’m not writing or reading, I enjoy hiking, watching baseball, exploring old cemeteries, visiting coffee shops with my husband, and correcting other people’s grammar.
