Is My House Cursed?

Yes, I believe my house is under a curse.

We bought our 1952 stone ranch ten years ago. Despite having sworn I’d never live in a ranch house (I grew up in one and always hated the style), living in a hotel room for two months after having sold our previous home was getting old (not to mention expensive), and we were getting desperate.

Our home faces a spooky forest. This alone lends it a creepy vibe. But the house itself has provided me with much inspiration. Many of the scenes in Unwelcome were, in fact, based on things I’ve experienced in the decade since moving here. I won’t divulge them, as I don’t want to include any spoilers. But suffice it to say that Unwelcome is only partially fiction.

I’ll add that the prior owner of our home was a man who shares some striking similarities with David Spencer, the baddie in my book.

I do believe in ghosts. I always have. And although it’s not a Gothic Victorian (if only!), our house has many of the qualities that make living here every bit as eerie.

Yes, we are hoping to move. Soon.
